This lo-fi, low-budget indie comedy took eight years to complete—so yes, we literally travelled through time making it! Shot on location in North London and dripping in '80s nostalgia, Time Travel Is Dangerous was a total joy to shoot. We went back to basics with homemade props, practical effects, tons of haze and an incredibly dedicated crew to pull it all together.
As DOP, I embraced the film’s DIY spirit—mixing handheld documentary-style shots with stylised lighting and retro anamorphic lenses to echo the story’s wild tonal shifts. From vintage shop interiors to absurd sci-fi world building, the cinematography was about grounding the chaos in something visually cohesive and fun to watch.
Released in UK cinemas on March 28th, the film earned a 4-star review from The Guardian and features an incredible ensemble of British comedy icons: Johnny Vegas, Jane Horrocks, Sophie Thompson, Mark Heap and narration by Stephen Fry.
Also starring Brian Bovell, Tony Way, Guy Henry, Tom Lenk, Laura Aikman and Kiell Smith-Bynoe—with real-life shop owners Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson playing fictionalised versions of themselves—this part-mockumentary, part-sci-fi adventure is a chaotic, vintage-fuelled romp through time, second-hand bargains and questionable decisions.
At its heart, the film is a celebration of deep platonic friendship—the kind that endures space, time, and the occasional sci-fi mishap!
